Shelter Medicine: A Place of Limitless Rewards for Veterinary Technicians

(2 NYS Approved CE Credits)

Presented by: Lisa H. Levin, DVM

The modern animal shelter shares little resemblance with its past incarnations and reflects our society's interest in, and demand for, superior animal protection. Among the many programs featured in today's progressive animal shelters are medical departments built on an increasingly sophisticated knowledge base; useful equipment, the interface with other shelter departments and the compassionate professionals committed to using all to provide excellent veterinary services for the many orphans entrusted to their care.

Based on the model of Animal Care & Control of New York City, this presentation will explore concepts in modern shelter medicine: disease prevention, diagnostic modalities, treatment strategies and euthanasia.

Participants will:

  • Receive an introduction to modern shelter medicine
  • Learn how interfacing and community outreach saves lives
  • Discover professional opportunities available for LVTs
