The mission of the New York State Association of Veterinary Technicians, Inc. (NYSAVT) is to represent, promote and advance the licensed veterinary technician profession. NYSAVT achieves this goal through education, legislative initiative, public awareness and membership development by working with allied professions and organizations for the enhancement of veterinary medicine.

The New York State Association of Veterinary Technicians (NYSAVT) was formed as a not-for-profit membership organization on July 24, 1991. Since then, NYSAVT has helped support, promote and protect the profession through legislative initiatives, continuing education and member events and communication of important issues to every NYSAVT member.

In December of 2011 NYSAVT saw the passage of mandatory continuing education for Licensed Veterinary Technicians. NYSAVT supports the mandate as it lends credibility to our great profession, and puts us in line with many of the other 50 professions recognized by New York State.

In November of 2014, NYSAVT experienced a re-branding and launched a NEW NYSAVT website that includes a robust job board, continuing education tracking and a dynamic member community to keep our members and professionals connected and up to date on important issues affecting our practice.

NYSAVT continues to advocate for LVT's both in, and out of NYS. We feel it is important to protect the duties of LVT's and be sure that unlicensed personnel are not allowed to perform the job functions protected by our practice act.
