We are aware that there remains an issue of non-licensed professionals fulfilling the duties of LVTs in some practices. We continue to monitor and try to educate all Veterinary professionals of the importance of only employing licensed professionals to perform the duties reserved for LVTs.

Animal Office Assistant (AOA)

The AOA program of study is offered by SUNY Ulster to offer office support to Veterinarians and Licensed Veterinary Technicians.  The overall goal of the program is to provide knowledge and training to individuals in order to prepare them to work within an animal science practice.  Upon completion of the program, individuals will be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of animal nutrition, anatomy and physiology, infectious disease, and medical terminology so that they may function effectively to support a veterinary practice from an office management standpoint.

*It should be noted that the AOA certificate is not recognized by the State of New York as a licensed profession, and as such, Animal Office Assistants may not serve as LVT surrogates.
