The Cost of Caring: How to Defeat Compassion Fatigue and Reignite your Passion and Performance

Abstract: Compassion fatigue is often coined the "cost of caring" (Figley). Our work can be both challenging and stressful as we bear witness to the pain and suffering of pets and their owners daily. Without the tools to manage this work we can become overwhelmed and exhausted physically, emotionally and spiritually. But it doesn't have to be this way. By learning skills for resiliency we can sustain our passion for our work and continue to provide the quality care that aids in healing. 

Learning Outcomes: Participants will be able to,

1. Recognize the signs, symptoms and triggers of Compassion Fatigue(CF)
2. Normalize CF
3. Offer self-care strategies to help prevent and recover from CF
