    • Lorelei D'Avolio, LVT, VTS (Exotics), CVPM
      • One of the most intimidating thing for technicians is taking blood from birds. This lecture will dissect this process with everything from commonly run tests, lab tubes for exotics, syringe and needle sizes, how to set up, and of course where to get phlebotomy samples safely.
  • Understanding Shock (PDF available)
    • Erica Mattox, CVT, VTS (ECC)
      • A presentation on recognizing an emergency in veterinary patients, including recognizing shock.
      • Learning objectives: Aid in Veterinary technicians' recognition of patients in need of emergency care and be a proactive team player in the initiation of treatment.
  • Rabbit and Guinea Pig Care (PDF available)
    • Lorelei D'Avolio, LVT, VTS (Exotics), CVPM
      • Exotic pet technicians spend a lot of time teaching clients how to best care for their pets, and these commonly kept herbivores have some specific dietary, housing, and enrichment needs. This lecture focuses on their anatomy and physiological requirements so that technicians will truly understand not only how to care for them, but why.
  • Working with Emotional Intelligence in the Veterinary Field
    • Tara Woyton, MS, LVT, CVT
      • Emotional intelligence is key for optimal mental health. The business of veterinary medicine can be very draining emotionally on personnel. One of the keys to being successful and maintaining your ability to perform at optimum levels is to maintain good mental health. This section will discuss some of the difficult aspects of the veterinary field, such as euthanasia, bulling coworkers, etc. and help the participant to find a way to deal with the difficult things we come across on a daily basis, as well as know when to seek professional help.
  • Toxicities for Technicians (PDF available)
    • Erica Mattox, CVT, VTS (ECC)
